Furniture retailer makes a move into the S?Mall

The local branch of furniture manufacturer and retailer

Coricraft has moved premises and is now situated inside the Somerset Mall shopping centre.

Previously located in the Habitat Centre, adjacent to the main centre, the relocated store is packed with Coricraft products as well as new lines. The store is located at the Pick ‘n Pay entrance, between Clicks and Boardmans, and opened in time for festive season shopping.

The showroom manager is Cia Brand, a qualified interior decorator who has been with Coricraft for more than five years. She is fluent in German, had her own business for many years and was also a member of the Guild of Interior Decorators.

She says her team would like to welcome customers to the new shop, but that “many bargains” are still available at the former store in the Habitat Centre, which is temporarily serving as the Coricraft Clearance Centre. This centre will be open until the end of February.

The Coricraft company started trading some 10 years ago as a manufacturing operation in Salt River, Cape Town. “It was soon recognised as a leader in the furniture industry and became well known for their exceptional oversized comfort, quality, style and value,” says Brand. The chain now has 13 stores located in Cape Town and Gauteng, and employs over 800 people. The Epping Coricraft factory in Cape Town employs 420 people, putting them on the map as the second-largest furniture employer in the Western Cape.

The factory produces 200 sofa units on a daily basis and operates four sofa lines slip cover, upholstered fabric, leather Safari and the Euro leather line of sofas that are manufactured with top A-grade leather that is imported from Brazil.

According to Brand, as demand for the slip-cover sofas and colonial styled full grain leather sofas grew, the manufacturing operation was expanded to cater for new sofa styles, occasional chairs, dining room tables, coffee tables, dining room chairs and décor accessories.

“Inspiration for new products is based on both time honoured models as well as ideas gleaned from all around the world. Coricraft’s in-house decorators select and procure product from international trade fares in many different countries and as result Coricraft is able to set the trend in both product variety and style at prices that are unrivalled,” she says.

Coricraft sofas are designed by founder Gerald Yosh, an icon in the furniture industry. Coricraft Somerset Mall is open from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 18:00, Saturday from 09:00 and Sunday from 09:00 to 16:00. Phone the store on 852-0888 for more details.
