Furniture store owner arrested for fraud

MIDDLETOWN — William C. Neumann, the owner of the Cabbage Rose furniture store in Fair Haven, was

arrested at his home today and charged with theft by deception and misconduct by a corporate official.

Neumann, 61, who lives on Brookside Road in the Leonardo section of Middletown, is accused of failing to deliver to customers $290,000 worth of furniture orders. Neumann is believed to have defrauded at least 83 victims across the country, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Bail was set today by Superior Court Judge Paul F. Chaiet at $150,000. If convicted on all charges, Neumann could face up to 20 years in prison.
