Indonesia is a country with a lot of quality wood types. That is why native Indonesian wood is used not only as raw furniture material but also as an export commodity with high economic value. In addition to teak and mahogany, various types of wood are of high quality and have unique characteristics. One of them is coconut wood which is often used for furniture. Furniture materials made from coconut wood are also a good choice because of their quality and strength compared to other types.
Coconut wood, which has now become popular as a raw material for furniture, has several unique characteristics.
- Long size
- Reddish brown shade. In the older coconut wood, the cross-section gets a darker color. On the other hand, young coconut wood is usually light brown or yellowish brown. The strength of young coconut wood is not as good as the old one.
- The large fiber shape makes the surface of the coconut wood rough in texture. As the wood ages, the fiber shape will be larger.
- A coconut tree can produce different qualities of wood. The middle part of the tree will produce the best wood with a hard texture and a perfectly straight shape. Meanwhile, the edges of the coconut tree produce slightly curved wood, with a soft texture, and often still bark part.
- You may select coconut wood by tapping it. The good coconut wood has a very dense texture, the sound is not loud when you tap it.
