The U.S. government finally cut a check to local
furniture makers over their fight with China. Twenty three companies, including several in Galax, claimed China was dumping wooden bedroom furniture into the U.S. at illegally low prices. Â
After several international agencies agreed, U.S. Customs began to collect duties. Nearly $22 million was paid out this month. Stanley Furniture received $4.7 million. They received the most of any company in the nation. Vaughan-Bassett Furniture in Galax got about $2.4 million after taxes. Vaughan Furniture in the town received a check for a little more than a million dollars.
