VIRGINIA BEACH. Va. — Haynes Furniture will enter two new states with the opening of The Dump stores in Atlanta this month and Tempe, Ariz., early next year, according to a report by the Arizona Republic.
A spokesman for Haynes told the newspaper that additional sites primarily in the West are under consideration for the discount-oriented The Dump, which opens only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
In Tempe, the Top 100 retailer is leasing the 104,000-square-foot former Costco Home store and an additional 125,000 square feet of warehouse space in a nearby industry park, the report said. In Atlanta, it is opening in a former Home Depot location.
Company executives have not returned repeated telephones calls from Furniture/Today seeking confirmation on these expansion plans.
The 13-store Haynes ranks No. 31 on Furniture/Today’s Top 100 list with estimated furniture, bedding and accessories sales of $250 million in 2015, down 5.3% from the year before. The Virginia Beach, Va.-based company operates five Haynes and eight The Dump stores, the latter selling overstocks and factory closeouts in Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Texas.
Last year, Haynes phased out its two-store The North Carolina Co. – a high-end discount store format.
