Homewood Suites expected to open 82-room building on Michigan Road in February

The 82-room, four-story, extended-stay hotel will be managed by Valparaiso-based Good Hospitality Services.
That’s the same company that two weeks ago opened a Homewood Suites in two renovated, adjacent historic buildings in the heart of Downtown Indianapolis, two blocks from Conseco Fieldhouse.
Good Hospitality came to the Indianapolis metro region about three years ago with a Homewood Suites near the I-70 interchange in Plainfield, just west of the new interchange into the midfield terminal under construction at Indianapolis International Airport.
The company has about 1,450 rooms under ownership or management, with new hotels under construction in Indianapolis, Bloomington and Warsaw that will open by next year.
President Jeffrey J. Good said it’s all part of the company’s growth strategy to expand from its 16 hotels in Indiana, Michigan and Florida.
“We went to Plainfield to get ahead of the game when we saw the airport project beginning to move. And then we went Downtown in Indianapolis when we saw the new Colts stadium and expansion of the convention center space beginning to move,” Good said.
“Some might say we rolled the dice, and if Indianapolis didn’t end up doing something on those projects, it would all end up dying,” Good said.
“But we felt confident there are the civic leaders in Indianapolis who wouldn’t let that happen. So far, it’s paid off.”
The Northwestside hotel going up next to I-465 and Michigan Road — the address will be 4140 W. 94th St. — is next to a Cracker Barrel restaurant that opened last spring. It is in the Michigan Road corridor of hotels, retailing, restaurants and the Pyramids office buildings.
It is next to at least two lots prepared for construction of more hotels and restaurants or other buildings, and developers have an additional 40 acres nearby for commercial construction.
Good said the building going up will be an 82-room hotel with one- and two-room suites, an indoor pool and spa, weight and exercise center, high-speed Internet and a hot breakfast buffet.
It is scheduled to open by February.
Though there are many other hotels within two miles, Good said “a lot of the others are the budget type, while we’re a little higher end, a premium niche. While we expect many people for one night, particularly larger families or people looking for room to spread out, Homewood Suites is likely to appeal to guests on extended stays of a week or two or longer.”
The rate is typically about $104 a night.
HRC Hotels, based in East Lansing, Mich., will own the hotel. Jeff Good is a partner in HRC, and his Good Hospitality is constructing the hotel and will manage it.
Meanwhile, Good Hospitality opened 92-suite Homewood Suites by Hilton at 211 S. Meridian St. on July 20.
Good said the hotel in the center of Downtown’s convention district was the culmination of two years of planning to preserve architectural features of the two industrial buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
A shoe company and an office furniture company occupied the buildings, which date from 1886 and 1898.
Because of the unique architecture, Good said the suites are 585 to 725 square feet, much larger than typical hotel rooms.
