AT THE MARKET — Huntington Furniture Inds. has completed the acquisition of its new showroom
building here, the former Pennsylvania House space at 200 E. Green Drive.
“This has been in the works for some time,” said Les Flippo, who recently joined Huntington as CEO of its new upholstered furniture division.
He said the deal was a complicated one because, while Pennsylvania House parent La-Z-Boy owned the building, the land it sits on is owned by Bencini Realty of High Point. Huntington has acquired the building and has taken over the lease, with a provision that in 10 years the company will have an option to buy the land, Flippo said.
He termed it a “multimillion-dollar deal” but did not disclose the purchase price.
The four-story building has 51,000 square feet, with about 40,000 square feet of usable display space. Huntington is using the entire space this market to show its case goods and the new upholstery program, a medium-priced line sourced in China.
Flippo said the acquisition is a “significant statement” of support for the High Point Market and of confidence in the future of two-year-old Huntington Furniture.
