La-Z-Boy approves division office move to High Point

Thomas Russell — Furniture Today,
HIGH POINT – La-Z-Boy said today its board has approved

moving the company’s divisional headquarters from Greensboro, N.C., to neighboring High Point, by next September.

In connection with the move, the company has accepted up to $600,000 in incentives from the City of High Point. The money will help pay for the relocation and upfit of the company’s computer systems and would be paid in installments based on it meeting criteria the city sets in a performance agreement.

The divisional office is now at 4620 Grandover Parkway in Greensboro. Case goods companies in the La-Z-Boy umbrella that were once part of Ladd Furniture have had a presence there since 1997.

Before that, they were located in downtown High Point. La-Z-Boy later established its division headquarters at the Grandover location after acquiring Ladd in 2000.

Corporate headquarters remains in Monroe, Mich. But for High Point officials, the move of the division offices marks a symbolic return of the company to the city limits.

“It’s a good day for High Point and a good day for the furniture industry in High Point,” said High Point City Manager Strib Boynton. “We are happy they are coming home and look forward to working with them and helping them accomplish their goals as quickly as they would like to accomplish them. We pledge to do that.”

The company will move about 100 employees into 28,000 square of space in an existing building at 4310 Regency Drive, High Point. The relocation is also expected to add about $3.1 million for the city’s tax base.

In a statement, La-Z-Boy President and CEO Kurt Darrow said, “The Triad area is closely associated with the furniture industry, and we are delighted the new space in High Point meets our expectations and allows us to maintain our presence within the community.”
