Largo to roll out upholstery line in Tupelo

— Furniture Today,
HOUSTON — Wood and metal furniture importer Largo International is rounding out product assortment with a new line of domestically manufactured stationary upholstery.

Set to debut at this week’s Tupelo market, the new offering includes 14 frames in contemporary, traditional and transitional styles targeted at the $599 to $999 retail price points, according to Ray Reese, vice president of sales.

“We’ve had a lot of requests from our retailers on this, which is why we are so motivated in offering this category,” he said.

Reese said the new line will allow retailers to mix other products with upholstery shipped from Houston, making it easier to fill 53-foot trailers.

The upholstery collection includes sofas, loveseats, chairs, ottomans and chaises. Pieces are fully upholstered and, where appropriate, finishes on upholstery legs marry with finishes on occasional products. Reese declined to identify the manufacturer or the construction process.

Tupelo, as an upholstery-oriented market, is the perfect location for a launch, said Reese. Largo has doubled its space at the show to accommodate the upholstery offerings, he said.

“We just thought it would be a good tie-in to get started. Then we’ll kick off in High Point for people who don’t shop the regional market,” he said.

Shipping should start in late September.

The upholstery introduction follows a progression of products for the family-owned company. Largo started more than a decade ago with daybeds, metal beds and futons, added casual dining and bar stools in April 2001, bedroom, dining and occasional in April 2002, and leather upholstery in October 2012 — all imported from Asia.
