2.1 million-square-foot structure to open in 2015
LAS VEGAS — City officials have approved plans for Building 3 of the World Market
Center, setting the stage for a groundbreaking in the fourth quarter.
At nearly 2.1 million square feet, the 16-story building will be the largest WMC structure to date. It is scheduled to open in 2015.
“The third building is by far the most diverse lineup and will make World Market Center and its suppliers a true one-stop shopping destination for buyers,†said Dave Palmer, general manager of the WMC. “In the next few years, the Las Vegas Market will be poised to deliver the entire spectrum of products in all segments.â€
The project, including an adjacent 9-story parking garage, will cost more than $500 million.
WMC officials said floors 1, 3,4 and 5 will feature design center showrooms that will be open year-round, while accessories and seasonal merchandise will dominate floors 6 and 7. Floor coverings will be featured on floors 8 and 9 and lighting on 10 and 11.
Furniture showrooms, with an emphasis on high-end goods and contemporary styling, will be on floors 12 through 16.
About 15% of the space already is committed, officials said.
WMC officials said the fully leased Building 2, a 16-story structure with about 1.6 million square feet of showroom space, is on track for a January 2014 opening.
When Building 3 is complete in 2015, the WMC will have about 5 million square feet of permanent showroom space and another 1 million square feet of temporary space.
