OMAHA, Neb. — Nebraska Furniture Mart has hired Steve Riley as general merchandising manager for its furniture division, a new position.


Reporting to CEO Irv Blumkin, Riley will oversee buying and other merchandising support activities for NFM’s two full-line stores here and Kansas City, Kan.

A 27-year retail veteran, Riley most recently was vice president of home textiles with May Department Stores in Los Angeles. He also has overseen furniture, floor covering and other categories for May.

“Steve is a great addition to our staff and will strengthen the buying and management of the furniture division,” Blumkin said.

He added NFM has had dramatic growth in recent years and was aiming to add strength and depth to its management team.

NFM is part of Berkshire Hathaway’ furniture division. In addition to its 450,000-square-foot showrooms in Omaha and Kansas City, it also operates the two-store Homemakers Furniture of Des Moines, Iowa.
