Phillips sworn in as U.S. ambassador-designate to Estonia

WASHINGTON — Longtime furniture and textiles industry executive and former North Carolina Secretary


of Commerce Dave Phillips has been sworn in as U.S. ambassador-designate to Estonia.

Phillips, a High Point native, will present his credentials to the Baltic republic’s president in May.

He was active in the industry for more than 30 years in factoring, building furniture market showrooms and textile manufacturing. He has been chairman and CEO of Phillips Inds. and a partner in High Point’s Market Square Partnership.

As a North Carolina state official, Phillips organized trade missions and traveled widely. More recently, he led a trip to India and met with the Dalai Lama.
