PM defending hotel construction, big plans for furniture industry

Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller has again defended the government’s decision to give the green-light to several investors to build hotels across the island.

Speaking at Thursday’s signing of a joint venture agreement for the development of the Harmony Cove resort, Mrs. Simpson-Miller returned to a topic which she had addressed at Sunday’s annual conference of the People’s National Party.

She argued that Harmony Cove will serve as a catalyst for further development in Trelawny and a sign of the direction of her administration.

In the meantime, the Prime Minister says she intends to preside over the revitalisation of the local furniture manufacturing industry.

Mrs. Simpson-Miller says she has already given instructions designed to breathe new life into the furniture industry.

She says the furniture to be created locally will be of the highest quality to meet the demands of developments such as Harmony Cove.
