WARREN, Mich. — Sharon Gjertsen has joined the buying staff at Art Van Furniture’s corporate office here with responsibility for fabric and leather upholstery and occasional chairs.


She succeeds Mike Turnwald, who recently left the retailer, and reports to Tom De Corte, vice president of merchandising.

Gjertsen most recently was vice president of merchandising for Kane’s Furniture, the Top 100 chain based in Pinellas Park, Fla., where she had worked since 2003. Earlier, she was director of merchandising and marketing for Lombard, Ill.-based Top 100 company Harlem Furniture. She also previously worked as a sales representative for Schnadig and in merchandising and sales for H. Brian Convertible Sofas in Illinois.

“She comes to us with many years of industry experience and is really in tune with today’s consumer,” said De Corte. “We are confident that she will be adding new exciting collections to our inventory that will delight our guests.”
