Shelby County plant to cut 91 jobs

Leggett & Platt Inc. is laying off 91 production workers at its plant in Simpsonville.

The plant, located at 211 Main St., is part of Leggett & Platt’s Home Furniture Components Group. It manufactures hardware for furniture.

The layoffs are a result of excess manufacturing capacity, according to a notice filed with the Kentucky Division of Workforce and Employment Services. The cuts will occur in January.

Carthage, Mo.-based Leggett & Platt (NYSE: LEG) is a manufacturer of components for the automobile, retail, office and home products industries.
