Furniture Today,
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Sustainable Furniture Council has completed its legal incorporation in
Delaware as the industry organization prepares for this month’s High Point Market.
The SFC is a nonprofit industry association committed to promoting sustainable manufacturing and related business practices, and to raising awareness about environmentally friendly choices among furniture buyers and consumers.
Â
Membership is open to individuals or companies that embrace the organization’s mission. Some 35 charter members will have a role in defining initial standards requirements for SFC-endorsed furniture companies.
The SFC will kick off the spring market with an evening event in the South Cone showroom in Union Square, P-402, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, March 26. On Tuesday, March 27, Cisco Bros. will host a party in its showroom at 300 W. Broad St., also scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m.
On Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Market Square courtyard, a market event will celebrate the launch of GreenStyle, an effort to help marketgoers learn about sustainable home furnishings products and practices. The SFC and Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. are teaming to launch the effort.
Throughout market, the SFC will man a booth inside the GreenStyle Pavilion on the top floor of the Suites at Market Square with membership and certification information. A GreenStyle Market map also will be available, marking SFC member locations. Member showrooms will feature GreenStyle signs.
