SOUTHLAKE, Texas — Weir’s Furniture Village has broken ground on its third Dallas-area store.


Construction on the 55,000-square-foot unit, which will have 25,000 square feet of selling space, was expected to begin this month and the opening is planned for summer.

The groundbreaking was led by Weir’s 95-year-old founder, J. Ray Weir, who launched the store in 1948. He was surrounded by family including grandsons Brooks Weir, director of merchandising and marketing, and Mark Moore, president.

“We were founded on the principle of working hard to please and serve our customers,” the senior Weir said. “There are a lot of furniture stores, but it is the devotion and service delivered by our people that set us apart.”

The company declined to disclose its investment in the new showroom or projected sales.

“We’ve been very blessed … with our current sales and are looking forward to being able to enhance the service we (offer) to the community,” Brooks Weir said. 

The stand-alone store is on Wyndham Plaza property in a fast-growing shopping corridor in affluent Southlake, a northwest suburb of Dallas. Average annual household income exceeds $133,000 within a five-mile radius of the shopping area, according to Kimco Exchange Place, which is marketing the development.

The new Weir’s “will offer the same warm and inviting customer experience” as its other stores, the company said. Among features the retailer will replicate in the new unit are a country store, a U.S. post office, a Christian Book Nook and a Clearance and More center.

The other stores are on Knox Street in Dallas and in Lakeside Market in Plano.
