Williams to retire from Hooker Furniture

— Furniture Today,
MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Doug Williams, president and chief operating officer of Hooker Furniture, will retire from the company at the end of October.

Williams, who has been with Hooker since 1971, also will step down from the manufacturer and importer’s board of directors.

“We greatly appreciate Doug’s 35 years of loyal and dedicated service to Hooker Furniture,” said Paul Toms, CEO. “Under his leadership, Hooker became a significant case goods player with a leading position in home office and home entertainment furniture.”

Williams has been president and COO since December 2000. He was executive vice president of manufacturing for a year before then, and was senior vice president of manufacturing from 1987 to 1999.

“It has been a joy and privilege to be part of such a great company for 35 years and to work with such wonderful people,” Williams said. “I’m counting on them to continue the high standard of business and relationships that have always characterized the company.”

Upon his retirement, Williams’ duties will be carried out by Toms and other senior managers. Managers who previously reported to Williams will report to Toms.
