Wynwood expands range of same-price office pieces

HIGH POINT — Importer Wynwood drew attention at the October market here and in the contract industry with additions to a same-price program it launched earlier this year.

Wynwood, a Flexsteel division, began as an import arm for DMI, which had home office and contract office businesses. Much of that business has been moved under the Wynwood umbrella.

This summer, Wynwood added four small-scale executive desks. The desks were styled differently, but all retailed around $549. The program was so well received that the concept was expanded with more executive desks, writing desks and home entertainment pieces, said Marc Abrams, vice president of sales.

At market here, four vignettes showed a writing desk, chair and bookcase with retail prices of $699, $199 and $999, respectively.

Another four settings showed an executive desk ($799), L-shaped desk ($999), hutch ($499) and file-drawer cabinet ($399). The only piece that isn’t priced the same is the bookcase because each group gets a signature piece, with either open shelves or doors.

All the other pieces are identical in function, he said. The doors open the same way and the computer tower goes in the same place, so the consumer just has to choose the style, said Abrams. All four sets can be shown or represented in 300 square feet, so the program takes little space.

The program’s Showtime entertainment component was a big hit at market, added Abrams. Six consoles and hutches stand 67 to 68 inches wide, with space for flat-panel TVs from the popular 42-inch model up to 60 inches. Each con-sole/hutch unit retails for $999.

Abrams said the next step is to add matching occasional to the same-price program, planned for the January Las Vegas Market.
