DUBAI — A massive fire erupted at a furniture factory in Al Aweer yesterday morning.
Ten workers escaped to safety even as the roof of the factory was gutted and machinery got damaged.
Civil Defence officials confirmed there were no casualties and suspected that a short circuit may have caused the fire.
According to eye-witnesses, the fire erupted around 10am at the factory owned by the Al Mashrabia Company. Fifteen fire fighters were pressed into service and the flames were controlled after an hour.
“I was passing nearby and noticed smoke spreading around. When I looked around, I found that the smoke was coming out from the factory. Civil Defence officials struggled to control the fire because of the windy atmosphere,” a witness recounted.
“The roof of the factory was completely destroyed. The machinery was also damaged. The workers were lucky to rush out when the fire erupted,” said the witness.
