Hudson Properties East Inc. is grading the site for a new furniture store next to Colony Tire on North Wesleyan Boulevard.
James Hudson, owner of Greenville-based Hudson Properties East Inc., said his company will own and lease the building to Badcock Furniture.
Badcock Furniture has its headquarters in Mulberry, Fla., a small town inland from St. Petersburg, Fla.
“We’re just getting started,” Hudson said. “The store should open prior to the first of the year.”
Hudson Properties East will construct the 24,000-square-foot store, Hudson said. The store will provide six new jobs, he said.
“The store and land is around a $2 million project,” he said.
Hudson said Badcock has about 350 stores in the Southeast – from Virginia to Florida and to the Mississippi River.
Locally, PLT of Rocky Mount will furnish the concrete at the store site, Hudson said.
The rest of the companies involved in construction are from Greenville and Wilson, Hudson said.
“We just finished a Badcock store in Wilson,” he said. “It has been open for a year over there.
“There’s another one in Greenville. In fact, there’s one in pretty much every major town around Eastern North Carolina.”
Hudson said Badcock is a mid-range furniture store.
