Klaussner reorganizes, consolidates production facilities

Klaussner Furniture Industries said it would consolidate its product lines and manufacturing facilities to better use those factories and give its employees more hours.

The company said the changes would require some job cuts, but it also said that new jobs would be created and that current Klaussner employees would be given “primary consideration” for the new posts. The company did not say how many jobs were involved.

The changes will begin this month, the company said in a news release, and should be complete by January.

The changes include:
â–ª The Klaussner leather product line will be consolidated with the Klaussner textile product line under one roof in a facility at the company’s Lewallen Road corporate complex in Asheboro.
â–ª The Distinctions textile line and Distinctions leather and wood product lines will be consolidated at one facility at the Lewallen Road complex.
â–ª The reclining product line, now produced at a facility in north Asheboro, will be moved to the Lewallen Road complex.
â–ª The swatch production operation in Klaussner’s Iowa facility will be moved to the company’s automated fabric cutting plant south of Asheboro.

Klaussner, based in Asheboro, is one of the largest furniture makers in the country. The 7,000-employee company is privately held.
