It has been more than a year since the roof collapsed and the store flooded, taking more than $6 million in inventory with it. But the City Furniture in West Palm Beach is reopened, as of this morning.
Before Hurricane Wilma helped cause the damage, the store employed 72 people. City Furniture President Keith Koenig said all staff members were reassigned to other stores.
“Luckily, we had just opened new stores in Stuart and Wellington and were able to find positions for everyone there,” he explained. “But, now that the West Palm Beach store has reopened, most associates want to return to their home store.”
The facade of the store remained unscathed, causing many people who drove by to wonder why the store was closed.
With the hurricane damage repaired, the store, at 2121 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd., now has new displays, interior design services and a KC Café offering free fresh-baked cookies and a full coffee shop.
