Former teacher was married to Hershel Alpert, founder of retailer Alperts
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — Barbara Weiss Alpert, wife of Alperts Furniture Showplace founder and CEO Hershel Alpert, has died after a struggle with cancer. She was 74.
She was a teacher for years and promoted education and reading. She was active in numerous organizations, including the Scholarship Program of The Council of Jewish Women.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, two sons and seven grandchildren.
