HIGH POINTÂ — President George W. Bush intends to
nominate longtime industry executive Dave Phillips as ambassador to Estonia, the White House said this week.
Phillips is chairman and founder of Phillips Inds., an investment holding company that has had textile and furniture interests. He was part of the original group of three High Point businessmen that developed the Market Square showroom complex here in the early 1980s, and in 1998 sold it to Vornado Property Trust.
He also is a former North Carolina Secretary of Commerce.
In 2000, Phillips donated $75,000 to the Republican National Committee, according to the Federal Elections Commission. In 2012, he donated more than $50,000 to the committee.
His brother, Earl “Phil†Phillips, president and CEO of Phillips Interests, served as ambassador to Barbados for several months starting in July 2001.
