Kinwai starts building second big China plant

Furniture Today,
UNION CITY, Calif. — Contemporary furniture manufacturer

Kinwai USA has broken ground on a factory in Dongguan, China, of more than 1 million square feet.

The facility, which is scheduled to open in mid-2015, will be next to a similar-sized plant already operating on the Kinwai campus. The company produces a variety of contemporary furniture, including bedroom, occasional, home office, home theater and leather and fabric upholstery.

“We believe that the fastest-growing market segment in furniture is contemporary furniture, which is our focus,” said Raymond Zhao, president of Kinwai USA, which is based here. The company sells by direct container, or from its U.S. distribution centers in San Francisco and High Point.

Zhao said the company has experienced “dramatic growth” since it entered the U.S. market a few years ago. The additional plant capacity will be used to produce goods for sale in the United States and Canada, the company said.

“We are making this major investment in capacity and state-of-the-art computer and robotic systems to accommodate anticipated future growth and to secure a leadership position for Kinwai in quality, pricing and customer service on an international scale,” said Zhao.

Separately, Kinwai announced that it has received ISO4001 International Quality Environmental System Certification and the China Type III Certification for the Environment. Both awards recognize companies that have implemented environmental programs in their manufacturing operations, and have achieved goals specified in their environmental strategic plan.

“They demonstrate our deep commitment to the environment, and our leadership among manufacturers in China,” said Zhao. “North American customers can feel comfortable that in doing business with Kinwai, they are also supporting an organization devoted to achieving the highest environmental standards.”
