Cornwall — Firefighters put out the flames at a furniture factory this morning.
Cornwall Chief Patrick Hines said workers in neighboring sections of a complex at 2 Mill Street noticed smoke coming from DW Fine Furniture about 7 a.m.
Hines said the fire started in a production and storage room, and flames had begun to burn through the roof when they arrived. Firefighters cut a hole in the roof to vent the fire and had most of it knocked down within a half hour, Hines said.
Orange County investigators were looking for the cause yesterday, Hines said, but it appeared accidental. The complex used to be an old mill, and now has several tenants. Hines said no one was in DW when the fire started and workers in other parts of the complex quickly evacuated.
