A fire destroyed a furniture warehouse this afternoon in Rocky Mount.


No one was hurt in the blaze, which razed Jeff’s Furniture Warehouse on Marigold Street.

Firefighters still were knocking down flames two hours after smoke started billowing out of the brick structure shortly before 5 p.m. Nearly an hour later, the roof collapsed, and flames started climbing skyward about 100 feet in the air.
