Merillat, Inc., a subsidiary of Masco Corp. and manufacturer of kitchen and bath cabinets, will invest $16 million to expand the company’s Mount Jackson, Va., facility.
The expansion, which will create 150 new jobs, is the company’s third Virginia expansion in less than two years. Virginia successfully competed against North Carolina for the project.
Headquartered in Adrian, Mich., Merillat has provided quality cabinetry for the home since 1946. A Masco company since 1985, Merillat distributes its cabinets throughout North America. The company operates four manufacturing facilities in Virginia — one in Culpeper County, one in Mount Jackson in Shenandoah County, and two in Atkins in Smyth County.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Shenandoah County to prepare the state’s proposal and negotiate an incentive package to secure the project for Virginia. Governor Kaine approved a $150,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Shenandoah County with the project. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will support the project with training assistance through its Workforce Services Jobs Investment Program.
