Los Angeles based Furniture Basics has inked a deal purchasing the intellectual properties of the former youth furniture giant PJ Kids.
As part of the deal, Furniture Basics obtains the exclusive rights to the designs, photography and properties of PJ Kids three main lines.
“We feel that this is a great opportunity to give Furniture Basics a jump-start into the youth furniture business,†said Keith Covey VP Sales & Marketing. “These three lines produced a significant amount of sales. We believe if we can satisfy even a portion of the past customers with these products that we will put ourselves into a steady growth position.â€
Furniture Basics has just finished production of their Woodland, Canyon Lake and Windflower collections, and intends to start shipping from their Pomona, Calif. warehouse in May.
“These lines mirror the PJ Kids Better Basics, Design Classics, and Simply Sweet lines of the former PJ Kids,†Covey said. “We have taken these proven retail winners, improved the quality and packaging and brought them back to the marketplace with the backing of our factory who has made a huge investment to make sure we are able to flow this product as the customer’s expectâ€
Furniture Basics will offer warehouse as well as direct container services, and intends to add more designs for the spring.
“The start up of Furniture Basics has been a huge undertaking which started in September of last year,†Covey said. “We are very excited to deliver our first products and get the business underway. I believe our great advantage will be that the factory knows this product as they have produced it before, and our sales staff has 5 years of past experience with the product. I believe these two factors make this a winning combination.â€
