Furniture Brands International, one of the largest U.S. furniture manufacturers and owner of such brands as Thomasville, Henredon, Drexel Heritage and Hickory Chair, recently opened outlet stores in Rockville and Vienna. The outlets are the company’s only two in the country, says John Hastings, vice president of communications.
The showrooms, both former Linens ‘n Things stores that are about 50,000 square feet, carry only discounted and closeout items. Markdowns depend on the specific item, how old it is and how well it’s selling, Hastings says. Shoppers can expect items to be reduced 30 to 50 percent off retail prices.
The company decided to open the outlets in the D.C. area, Hastings says, because of the region’s size and its relative economic stability. Previously, the brands were sold mostly through independent furniture dealers and national retailers, such as major department stores.
The Rockville location (11816 Rockville Pike, 301-770-0719) opened in late July; the Vienna store (2051 Chain Bridge Rd., 703-714-1995) opens Thursday.
