New York —
Designer Denyse Schmidt has partnered with bedding manufacturer Sarita Handa Exports to produce a collection of crib quilts and linens. The collection will debut at the New York textiles show later this month.
The collection, dubbed Denyse Schmidt Baby, is comprised of three designs: What a Dish, Strings Attached and Pretty Square. What a Dish features a circular pattern on a white background. The group is offered in turquoise and pink colorways.
The Strings Attached design features two color stripes out of alignment with crosshatched stitching details. The group is available in pink, dusk and spring, which is a mix of robin’s egg blue and light green.
Pretty Square is based on Schmidt’s signature pattern and features the geometric shape in alternating colors of sage, cobalt, red-orange and white.
The 100% cotton quilts are hand-quilted and sold as part of a set that includes a bumper and sham, with a retail price between $200 and $225. A bed skirt is sold separately and retails for $60. The collection, which is targeted to specialty stores, is scheduled to start shipping this spring.

The line expands the partnership between Schmidt and the New Delhi, India-based Sarita Handa, who have worked together to bring Schmidt’s quilt designs to a more moderate price point and wider audience. Her made-to-order line caters to more upscale clients. In addition to working with Schmidt, Sarita Handa also makes private-label bedding for retailers such as Federated Department Stores, Garnett Hill and Pottery Barn.
The crib line will be shown in the Sarita Handa showroom New York Design Center during the textiles market.
