HONG KONG — Travelers to furniture shows in Asia may want to add a new one to their list.

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council and trade show organizer Kenfair International Ltd.

are launching the Hong Kong International Furniture Fair. It will be held Oct. 27-30 at the AsiaWorld Expo near the Hong Kong International Airport.

The show is expected to draw about 250 exhibitors. Most will be from Hong Kong and Mainland China, but companies from Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Italy are expected to show.

It was not clear how much space the furniture show would occupy. The venue has about 750,000 square feet of floor space. However, it will feature a mix of residential, outdoor and office furniture and components, and contract furniture for restaurants and hotels.

It is expected to draw furniture retailers, designers, sourcing agents and trade association representatives from North America, Europe, Australia, the Middle East and Asia. The show comes about a week after the fall market in High Point, which runs Oct. 16-22.

Show officials and exhibitors are optimistic about the show’s prospects. That includes Hong Kong-based Jansen Furniture, which will occupy about 1,800 square feet.

“It is another opportunity to showcase our high-end classic furniture, bronze accessories, lighting and sofa collections to existing and new customers,” said Account Manager Monica Terwindt.

Jansen, based in Hong Kong, also shows at fairs in Singapore in March, Guang-zhou in March and August, and Shanghai in September.

Herbert Ip, chairman of Kenfair International, said, “The fair will be a great success and will quickly become one of the most important trading platforms for the furniture industry.”

Show sponsors include the Hong Kong Furniture & Decorative Trade Assn. and the Hong Kong International Furniture & Decoration Assn.
