Edward Carey promoted at Maitland-Smith

CEBU, Philippines — Maitland-Smith has named Edward Carey chief operating officer of Maitland-Smith Asia, a new position.

Carey joined the company in 1988 as a foundry consultant in High Point. Two years later, he was promoted to foundry division manager in the company’s factory in Cebu, the Philippines.

In 1994 he became vice president of manufacturing in Cebu and three years later was promoted to vice president of manufacturing in Asia. Since 1998, he has been general manager of Asian operations.

In his new role, he will oversee all aspects of manufacturing and distribution from the company’s Cebu and Indonesia factories. Combined, the facilities employ more than 5,000.

He reports to Jeff Young, president and CEO of HDM Furniture Inds., the Furniture Brands International group that includes Maitland-Smith, Drexel Heritage and Henredon.
