If we buy furniture, the first question that will definitely be asked is “what material is it made of?” And most of the questions were answered by furniture sellers, made of wood.
Yes, it is true that most of the building blocks of furniture are wood. The wood itself has various types. But generally, wood furniture is divided into solid wood and engineered wood.

Solid wood is pure wood that comes from tree cuttings or direct wood blocks. The pieces of wood are then carved or shaped into various furniture. Meanwhile, engineered wood or processed wood is wood produced by a factory that produced by combining, gluing, or arranging wood particles, fibers, or layers, together with adhesives, veneers, waxes, or resins so that they become sheets or pieces.

Meanwhile, engineered wood can be referred as processed wood at the factory. The components and composition of the material are certainly different from solid wood. Engineered wood contains a variety of other components besides wood. There are several kinds of engineered wood that differ in components and properties.

This time we will discuss about Solid Wood. And as we all know, solid wood is natural furniture wood that comes from direct logs of trees. Solid wood considered as the best and quality furniture making material because it is very solid, strong, and sturdy. No wonder the construction of buildings and bridges must also use solid wood. In furniture wood, solid wood is appreciated for its strength, durability, and the beauty of its natural wood which is still visible in the patterns and textures. The types of plants or trees that commonly used as solid wood are teak, oak, pine, sengon, maple, mahogany, and beech.

Even so, not all types of solid wood have the same resistance and strength. There are two types of solid wood: hardwood and softwood, which differ in strength and density, depending on the type of tree. In Indonesia itself, teak is a hardwood that is considered to have the best strength and durability. In addition, there are some drawbacks that need to be considered too, like the uneven surface that makes it difficult to shaped.
