For the Pontius family who has owned and operated The Furniture Store in Lake Isabella for the past 20 years, it’s always been about providing valley residents with choices. Those choices include a wide selection of the best of American made furniture available at affordable prices for every room in your home.

“Special order of living and dining room and bedroom furniture is really what we do the most of,” stated Robin Pontius “We have a large 4500 square foot showroom and a local warehouse, but you can only show so much on the floor.” Their store showroom is divided into various sections with each room of the home being showcased in a wide variety of quality products in a surprisingly large selection of styles, colors and textures. Furniture Traditions, Ashley and La-Z-Boy Recliners are just three of the famous quality product lines of furniture they carry.

David Pontius, Robin’s husband added “It’s not only about having quality products available for customers, but also about providing the quality of service that they have come to count on from us.” The long time valley resident continued, “I believe in honesty. If I don’t think I can offer the best price on a product, I’ll tell them where they can go to get it. I’d rather make a sale from them later on down the road. That’s were honesty and integrity come in.“

Pontius previously owned and operated the Sears Catalog store with his mother Doreen Pontius from 1976 to 1982. He left the valley for a few years to explore other ventures but returned to open The Furniture Store in 1989. He commented that some of store’s best repeat customers are the many weekender’s who live part time in the valley. “These folks live in the city and really know the selection and prices that they have down there,” he added, “When they check us out, they’re thrilled to see we actually offer them a better deal than the large store chains and of course we offer them the added bonus of small town service.”

As you enter the back showroom you see a wide array of beds by some of America’s best known manufacturers such as Serta, Englander and Tempur-Pedic. The staff enthusiastically offers you an opportunity to take a “sleep test” which entails lying on one of the Tempur-Pedic beds and resting your head on one of the Tempur-Pedic Comfort pillows. As they adjust the bed with the remote to conform to your body, you are immediately engulfed with a comfort you’ve likely never experienced before. Pressure is gone, aches and pains disappear and visions of an exceptional night’s sleep drift through your mind.

The Furniture Store currently has several offers that definitely make it tempting for local shoppers to come in and make that new purchase they may have been putting off. Customers can get $100 off any purchase of a seven piece living room set or they could choose a free area rug or set of accessories to accompany the set. Sets start at just $999 and include a sofa, love seat or sectional, coffee table, two end tables and two lamps. They also have a stylish five piece pub style dining room set, perfect for updating your home for the holidays for the exceptional value of $149. As always, they offer free delivery, set-up and removal of your old furniture. The couple are also featuring a fall mattress sale that brings customers the very best of Serta sleep products at great savings. They’ll also throw in an adorable Serta sheep plushie to sweeten the deal.

The Furniture Store is definitely a family environment. At some point during the day, you’ll see the couple’s two youngest children snuggled in front of tone of the showroom TV’s catching their favorite kid’s program. Their elder daughter Sarah Jackson works at the business doing computer entry work and providing help with sales. Twelve year old Jessica is already starting to learn the business ropes as well.

As they state on their website, The Furniture Store knows how important it is that you receive best value for your hard earned money. “We belong to the largest buying group in the nation. With over 2,800 members operating some 7,500 store fronts, they have $11 billion in combined annual sales. This allows independent stores like us to buy at the same price as large chain stores. The savings are passed on to you, our friends and neighbors.”

In addition to great furniture, Robin can also offer valley residents another unique. She teaches a 13-week life-changing program that is offered through Financial Peace University (FPU). The program uses biblically based principles to teach individuals to achieve their financial goals by eliminating debt, saving for the future, and being able to giving like never before. Pontius stated that she has had nearly 100 people have participated and completed the program with her. It is free of charge, although participants must pay for the study materials. She commented, “The people I have taught the program to have been challenged and motivated to make lasting changes to their lives.”
